The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Frustration About Sizing Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Reaction
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and manually change the size where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Before the change, the sizes had both one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Accounts
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, stated she felt frustrated because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she said.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: previously, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
